Germany week 33 Day 4 Paris Versailles

Germany week 33 Day 4 Paris Versailles
Hello all
Well we went to Versailles today.  It was a trip to get there.  The hotel told us to just go to the subway station and it would take us right there.  Well we got to the subway station but it seemed that to buy the tickets we all had to have change not paper money --well there was a nice Chinese couple there tyring to get tickets too.  We did not have enough money between us to do it in change so we proceeded for the next half an hour trying to find change.  We finally got the change from the buses.  It took about three buses to get what we needed.  Then we bought the tickets and it was so crowded that Gregg had to save a girl from her arm hanging out and the train was just really crowded going and coming.  Not sure how else to go but anyway we got there  We got our tickets and waited in line for about 45 minutes then saw the Versailles.  Now Louis thought a lot of himself.  He had gold everywhere.  Then  we ate at the kings palace  80 bucks for two coffees a ham sandwich and a salad. But when  you are hungry you are hungry LOL  But we are glad we went it-- it is a sight to see. Enjoy the pictures.
I will write next week about Barcelona.
Once again Hugs from Germany via Paris.

Germany week 33 Paris day 3

Germany week 33 Paris day 3 Normandy and Omaha beach
Dear all
Today we went on a trip to Normandy Beach from Paris.  Since our hotel did not give us a wake up call or seem to be able to get us a taxi it was a miracle we got here.  But sometimes when I know that I have to get up I just wake up before the wake up call or before I am supposed to.  Anyway we made it to the bus.  This day was rainy and overcast- almost exactly like it was for D Day,  The bus took us first to the museum.  It was really nice with lots of memeorabilia from that day and lots of pictures.  It was most moving and informative and they showed a 15 minute movie and at first I thought how are they going to do this in all of the languages.  But there was no commentary just footage of that day.  It did not need words.  Then we went to Omaha and to Utah beach and then to the point of the cliff where they soldiers had to climb the cliff.  I really dont know how they did that- they are truly the greatest generation and my dad-- a world war 2 vet himself-- defintiely is included in that greatest generation.  After we went to the beaches we went to Canadian Memorial and then to the American Cemetary.  It was a very moving and informative day.
When we got back to Paris we took pictures of the Eiffel tower at night- It is really awesome at night and then we took a picture of Gregg on the bridge where Jason Bourne was standing in the Bourne Identity.  He likes things like that.
Once again Hugs from Germany via Paris.

Germany week 33 Paris day 2

Germany week 33 Paris day 2
Hello all.
Today is Easter. Happy Easter everyone!! I guess because we are in Paris it seems only fitting that we go to Notre Dame.  We took the bus and got to Notre Dame and went into the service-  We stayed for the choir to sing and for a bit more.  It was too crowded to find a seat and it was all in French but it was very moving just the same.
After Notre Dame we went to the Eiffel tower once again and then to some more sights.  We ended up eating at a little outdoor cafe and that was great just sitting and watching the Parisians.  We window shopped and just walked the streets. Then we did a river cruise down the Seine River.  It was lovely. I bought some paintings from some of the street artists.  I love those paintings.  I loved Paris and the weather although a tad bit nippy was beautiful.
Enjoy the pictures.
